Sysmä High School future skills weighted curriculum
What kind of skills and capacities do the youth need to encounter the future and work wisely within it?
The Päijänne-linja is a new specialized program at Sysmä Upper Secondary School in Finland. It uniquely combines sailing, future resilience, and nature relationship to strengthen students' ability to respond to the future and encourage them to gain agency in the society. The curriculum integrates sailing education on Lake Päijänne with learning future skills based on the Inner Development Goals (IDG) framework, such as creativity, collaboration, and emotional resilience. Teaching is conducted through immersive camps, offering students practical skills to survive in the nature, find future resilience and learn to relate to others.
